What We Are Wearing – That 90′s Friday feeling!

17 Aug

Mix it up and have a great weekend Y’all!

Getting Skirty for Summer.

16 May

The sun is out! Quick! Rifle through your drawers and wardrobes, dig out those skirts, get those pins out and run to the beach with a picnic hamper filled with treats immediately.

Ok, so maybe it’s not quite hot enough for sans tights shenanigans quite yet. BUT the weather is a’turning and it’s time to snap up some new skirts in preparation for those summer funtimes.

A hot tip for your skirt purchases is to go midi. The great thing about midi skirts is that a) they look lovely & swishy and b) they are a tad more practical than wearing a mini skirt, especially on slightly windy days. Wear with brogues and ankle socks to the office and switch to sandals for the weekend.

We have a lovely selection of midi skirts available on our ASOS marketplace, so take a peek…

Or if online shopping ain’t your thing, why not pop along to our next vintage pop up shop on Saturday 16th June. 11-4pm. Free entry and a huge array of vintage treats. To keep reminded of our events you can follow us on facebook here or join the vintage pop up shop event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/438879156141457/

Ladies Like Us

17 Apr

It’s fair to say that setting up Super+Super HQ has been more than a ‘bit’ hectic for us and it has been known that at times we haven’t washed our hair for 5 days running, our nails look like we’ve become labourers, make up has become a thing of the past (unless the previous nights make up counts?! Classy I know..) and our sense of style has suddenly become even more ‘freestyle’ that it was before (borderline insane in fact).

Baring this in mind, it makes us EVEN MORE excited to tell you about our upcoming workshop in May ‘Ladies Like Us’. Ladies like Us is a collaboration between Bethanie Lunn – author of ‘The Modern Girls Guide to Fabulousness’ and the ‘How to cook in High Heels’ gals, Korin Nolan and Sasha Parker. Aimed at busy women it offers advice and inspiration on how to look great and feel wonderful all within tight time constraints. This is literally music to our poorly accessorised ears.

Focusing on food, fashion, fitness and beauty, this 2 hour workshop will literally cover all bases and you will leave armed with lots of fabulous tips, advice and ideas on how to be a modern day multitasking woman who aspires to ooze style. AMEN TO THAT.

The class is divided into four main areas opening with a mini masterclass on how to walk in high heels (well, we weren’t born with the skill were we?!), a pilates session that you can incorporate into your everyday life, a fun foodie session with ideas that are nutritious and quick and then ending with a diagnosis of your bodyshape complete with insider tips to help you dress for your shape so you can indeed look and feel fabulous!

Can you think of a more girl power way to spend your Saturday afternoon? We can’t wait!

The workshop is on Saturday 12th May 2012 starting at 1pm until 3pm and tickets are £40 per person. So be sure to snap yours up quick. Full details of the schedule can be found below:

START:

How to walk in high heels with Bethanie Lunn:

Walking correctly in high heels all starts with your posture and finding your centre of gravity. Just one class will correct your posture, offer you insider secrets and see your confidence rocket!

Areas covered include:

Posture analysis and posture correction
Finding your ‘centre of gravity’
Easy exercises to continue at home to strengthen your core
Exercises to help improve your balance
Walking stance
Insider tips on making shoes as comfortable as possible, preparing the shoe and
protecting your tootsies
Confidence boosting tips

This is great for any person with a love of heels and all things girly or for women who love to wear high heels to work but need a helping hand in making them more comfortable, so it’s easier to dash around from meeting to meeting and last in them all day!

Pilates with Korin Nolan:

Pilates is the favoured technique by hordes of celebrities as well as sassy women in the know. Why? Because it works. Pippa Middleton showed off her perfect derrière in that dress and Sarah Jessica Parker has reaped the benefits for years ….and we’ve all envied her tiny toned frame as much as her extensive wardrobe in Sex in the City! So if you’ve not yet been hooked to the phenomenon that will streamline, shape and change your body to your desire, then it’s about time you were!

This will consist of quick and easy no-sweat Pilates exercises that can fit around your life; sitting at your desk, in the car, or done last thing at night whilst watching TV.

In fact these exercises are so adaptable and ‘do-anywhere’ that you can even have a go whilst sitting in your chairs for the appropriate ones.

How to Cook in High Heels with Sasha and Korin:

Our ethos is simple; quick, easy and accessible homemade food with a good helping of glamour thrown in for good measure!

In this part of the seminar our emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious food for the modern day woman. So easy to prepare breakfasts, lunches and snacks that can be eaten on the go, taken to work , or thrown together at home for a super quick, nutritious lunch with the girls. All designed for the modern day woman who leads a busy life but still wants to look and feel fabulous.

For each recipe we will address why we are using the select ingredient and what their health benefits are. Including looking at which foods are good for losing weight, what foods help to stabilise blood sugar levels so that we feel fuller for longer, which foods give us energy and many more besides.

You will come away armed with new ideas and recipes that will transform your mind, body and soul helping you to feel more energised and look fabulous. And yes of course we will give you a recipe sheet so that you don’t forget them!

How to dress for your shape with Bethanie Lunn:

This segment of the class offers a quick ‘diagnosis’ of the six different body shapes Bethanie has identified that every woman can relate to. Whether hour glass, rectangle, pear or otherwise, Bethanie will help you recognise your shape and then show you some clever tricks to dressing for it – complete with insider tricks to help you celebrate your best bits and camouflage any areas you feel aren’t your best bits!

Sounds ace doesn’t it! Basically a couple of hours for you to focus on YOU and then leave ready to style out those busy schedules. To book your place email us on supersuperHQ@gmail.com, call 01273 773910 or pop in to the HQ.

What We’re Wearing. No 2.

30 Mar

Spring has officially sprung at Super+Super HQ. Whether it’s a frock, a vest top, a jumper or our nails we are all about pretty pastels this week. Pastels are where it’s at this season. Whether it’s chiffon, cotton or denim, the colours will be tastier than a sweetshop with sugary shades of pink, pale blue, mint green and lilac. Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton took the lead on the runways with lovely pastel colours and high street shops are already doing the same. Get some in your capsule wardrobe this spring!

Amy is wearing vintage high waisted chinos and pale blue roll neck jumper complete with beehive to boot. HELLO Dynasty! Claire is sporting a floral number bought from Beyond Retro on Vine Street, Brighton last summer.

A Q&A for Ladies Like Us

26 Mar

For our next installment of Q&A’s we are very excited to introduce you to a collective of ladies called ‘Ladies Like Us’. These lovely gals will be doing some amazing fashion, food, fitness and beauty events with us in the future and we are so excited to be working with them!

Bethanie Lunn - Author of The Modern Girl's Guide to Fabulousness. Image by www.stevestensonphotography.com

Korin and Sasha - Authors of How to Cook in High Heels

Tell us a little bit about you.

Ladies Like Us a collaborative approach between Bethanie Lunn, stylist and author of The Modern Girl’s Guide to Fabulousness with Sasha Parker and Korin Nolan, food and fitness specialsits and authors of How to Cook in High Heels. Together, these fun, refreshing yet informative women teach other busy women with classes, tutorials and videos concentrating on four main areas: food, fashion, fitness and beauty.

Where do you draw the inspiration for your work from?

B: All around me! Real women inspire me after all, I am one! I love turning to the streets as much as I do the catwalks for style ideas and having over 11 years experience in the fashion and beauty industry has taught me a wealth of knowledge including some amazing insider tips and ideas from all sorts of people!

K: I love watching chefs prepare recipes on TV, reading recipes in magazines or tasting something new in a restaurant and then trying to recreate it in my kitchen at home with my own little twist making it easier and more do-able, with ingredients I already have in my cupboard.

S: Growing up, helping in my nans kitchen was mandatory! I used to love watching my nan and granddad throw ingredients together and it has definitely made me more experimental.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

B: determined, loving and optimistic.

K: ambitious, fun loving and emotional at times!

S: Loud, full of drive and just plain old happy!

How do you take your tea?

B: Builders- strong with 1 sugar please!

K: not too strong, milk, no sugar

S: milky with 1 and half sugars

What encouraged you to get into your fields and what was your route into it?

B: I knew I wanted to write from age 7 when I wrote my first book (ok, it was 10 pages long but that’s a novel at that age!) It was called The Green Cat and my teacher was so proud, she had it bound. I was always interested in fashion and beauty too which started supporting my sister backstage at her shows and shoots during her career as an international fashion model. I picked up so many amazing insider tips this way!

K: I’m a Gemini; a typical communicator, plus I love being creative, thinking outside the box and not necessarily following a traditional route in life. The mad media world suits me perfectly! There’s nothing I love more than being in front of the camera, it makes me feel alive.

S: I’m a born entertainer, I love making people laugh and having lots of fun. I love being over the top at times and nothing fazes me at all, if the people at the next table were taking a picture, i’d probably still smile just incase I was in the back ground :)

How do you like your eggs?

B: Sunny side up. If the yolk doesn’t run when I dip in my soldier, I’m incredibly disappointed! My fave though is eggs royale, yum yum!

k: Scrambled cooked with chopped tomatoes and fresh parsley

s: Poached with salmon

Who are some of your favorite designers/artists/illustrators/authors?

B: Tom Ford for his entrepreneurial spirit, Mary Katrantzou for her quirkiness. Si Scott for his vision. Edward Monkton for the humour. Me, Korin and Sasha as authors. Ha ha!

K: I’m a high street kinda girl ad live in Top Shop, although I’ve just got my hands on a beautiful Prada bag which is my current pride and joy! As for authors, I agree with Beth!

S: Can’t not agree with the girls on the authors side of things, and in terms of fashion I kind of just do my own thing and not tend to really have any favourties. If I like something I like it regardless.

What would your dream outfit be?

B: Marilyn Monroe meets Sarah Jessica Parker at a Mad Hatters tea party so think glamorous but playful and fun. A tutu skirt with a plain quirky slogan tee that flatters my curves, sky scraper Charlotte Olympia hees and a classic Mulberry tote!

K: A long sleek evening dress that skims my curvy bits, nips me in at the waist and gives me a cleavage to die for…. oh and accompanied by some expensive jewels ..

S: A knee length number thats fairly tight but yes nipping in at the waist, elegant and classy with massive heels!

What can the public expect from your upcoming events at Super+Super?

K,S & B: To come away armed with lots of fabulous tips, advice and ideas on how to be a modern day multitasking woman who aspires to ooze style and gorgeousness!

What’s your favourite cake?

B: chocolate brownies or red velvet cupcakes. It’s a tough call.

K: Banana and Walnut – I love wholesome flavours that are still a bit naughty

S: a good chocolate cake with a creamy centre

How would you spend your perfect day in our fair city?

B: Breakfast al fresco on George Street followed by browsing the charity shops and independents in Hove before visiting one of the quirky coffee houses in The Lanes and getting lost! Admiring the Pavillion and listening to live music in the gardens, oysters and prosecco at English’s then glam cocktails at Merkaba myhotel and ending the night on the beach at So Bar!

K: I haven’t spent a lot of time in Brighton, but I remember this fabulous little cake shop that I can’t remember the name of but I would definitely like to try and find again – so I would look for that!

S: I’ve not been to Brighton so i’d do as much as possible. I’ve heard you guys can get pretty wild in the evenings so be sure to find me in a good bar after my sight seeing.

What we’re wearing…Week 1

6 Feb

Each week us Super+Super gals will be putting our own little spin on Vogues ‘Today I’m Wearing‘ by showing you what trends we’re rocking that week. Notoriously known for ‘freestyle’ outfits, you never know what we’re going to pull out of the bag. It’s literally like a fashion lucky dip. Yet you don’t get a prize. Sorry about that…

So for the past week, we’ve been knee deep in vintage, sorting out our stock ready for our grand opening and as such Amy has embraced the tweeds and Claire has now decided to channel the 90′s and go all ‘Clarissa Explains it All’ on your asses. (Let’s face it, she was already resembling Blossom but this is totally next level…)

Amy:

You’ll most likely be as happy as we are that Tweeds are no longer just residing in the countryside or amongst the ‘older gentlemen’. The heritage trend is even bigger this year then it was last year and little jackets like this one nipped in with a belt resemble a fab forties style. One key trend this season is mixing your prints and fabrics which is exactly what Amy is doing here. She has mixed the jacket with a tweed pencil skirt and a flash of colour to create a super cute little forties style ensemble that is bang on trend.

Claire:

Whereas Amy is understated country chic, Claire is just all out 90′s. The 90s trend is MASSIVE this season and it’s set to continue all through the year. Technically 90′s doesn’t quite come under the ‘vintage’ category but it’s secondhand style at its very best. Think dungarees, oversized jumpers, crop tops and layering.

Le Geek, C’est chic.

29 Jan

With Super+Super HQ about to launch in the next month or so, we have officially swapped our party shoes for cardigans and tartan prints while we find ourselves knee deep in paperwork and prep. That said, being the types to avoid blending in to the crowds, we are mixing up our studious style  and channeling the inner geek within us.

With celebs like Alexa Chung, Zooey Deschanel, Miranda July all cashing on on this elusive ‘Geek chic’ trend, it seem’s only right that we rifle through our vintage and bring some straight to your very doorstep too.

Think pinafores, pleats, ladylike blouses, tartan prints and cute cardi’s.

You can get your paws on these treats as well as many more at our ASOS Marketplace here: https://marketplace.asos.com/seller/supersuper/collection

Now back to the books.

Ohhh. Who am I kidding? Where’s the Gin…
