The making of Super+Super HQ – Brighton’s first craft and creative Hub

27 Jul

So here it is guys, 6 months in and to celebrate we thought we’d share a few pictures of the making of our fair HQ. Before & After style… Four weeks of gutting, cleaning, sanding, grafting, filling…. A hell of a lot of paint, some AMAZING friends, too much Cava, and very special guilty pleasures playlist from Claire Culley, and we opened our doors as Super+Super. The joy. Here goes…

Pearl and the Beard – An acoustic gig at Brighton’s craft hub

26 Jul

This weekend just gone was possibly one of the most magical at S+S HQ to date. Not only did the sun beam down at a scorchio 26 degrees, but Pearl and the Beard rocked up to 7 Kings Rd and blew our minds with their stunning vocals and sheer crafty skills! Our first live music event, we were super excited when the band, from Brooklyn, contacted us to work some creative magic during their tour of the UK. Thanks to our very own Sophie Madeleine who hooked us up good!

If you get the chance to catch any of their UK dates you must go! They captivated us with a combination of heart wrenching lyrics in stunning vocal harmonies, and then good old stomping wailing clapping dancing tunes. Even staying after to assist our guests making several giant dream catchers! Their gig the following night at Green Door Store was totally fantastic. So much Joy, such an amazingly talented musical outfit, and the most lovely bunch of people we have met in a long time.

Lets all raise a Pimm’s to Pearl and the Beard. Jocelyn, Emily and Jeremy… come back soon x

We love Betty Magazine

10 Jul

Sometime’s there’s nothing more satisfying then sitting down with a fresh brew and a copy of one of your favourite magazines.

Earlier this week, we nestled down at our desk ready to surround ourselves with the jam packed pretty party that is Betty Magazine and low and behold, we turn the first page and see our very own shop front staring back at us! Featured on the Out and About page we were overjoyed to have a little write up about us and in particular Lou Taylor’s papercutting workshops!

Hurrah!

If that wasn’t enough I have to say that this is my fave issue to date by far. Here is a little round up of my favourite parts:

Pg 11. There’s no other way to describe it other than bike porn. Yep. I have been lusting after a new bike for a while now and the super cute baby pink bike coupled with that a-mazing wallpaper is just dreams dreams dreams.

Pg 24. I love Brunch. And I love eggs. A brunch with eggs is a sure fire way to make me smile and I can’t wait to try this baked eggs recipe. I do love me some streaky bacon too…

Pg 38. Tutti Fruiti tastic. I am a sucker for a tutti-fruiti colour and my heart did a swoon looking at the beautifully shot Vivetta clothing.

Pg 64. Deck the halls with craft! We are obsessed with making our own decorations at the moment and are soon to introduce wedding prep partys for brides to bring along all their friends and make their own DIY wedding decorations so are super chuffed to see Bettettes are jumping on the pom pom bandwagon too!

Pg 74. NAIL ART. We can’t get enough of it and the designs by ‘The illustrated Nail’ are awe-some, can’t wait to try out some of those bad boys. Except maybe just on the left hand. You’ll soon notice that I am getting used to hiding my right hand due to terrible shakey hand nail art application.

Ta-da! My best bits. Thanks again to Betty Magazine for featuring us, I urge you all to bag yourself a copy quick sharp as it’s just lovely!

Crafty Hens – Dainty Decorated Jam Jars

6 Jul

When one of our best girl friends asked to hold her wedding decoration preparation S+S Hq we jumped at the chance! Here is a sneek peek at what we will be making for her big day…. simple and mighty pretty indeed.

The idea is to mix a collection of found, gifted and hoarded treasures to create an ethically sound and sustainable wedding, and in true indie wedding style, a little bit of creative ’freestyle’ goes a long way! These decs’ have to be as easy to disassemble and recycle as humanly possible, so no tape, staples or unessential faff.

Here is the first of several ‘How to’ posts from our Crafty Hen’s at S+S theme. You will also be excited to hear that all this leads up to some exciting new events coming in August!….. Details to follow.

Friday Evening Stitch&Bitch – June

Another month draws to a close and what better way to start the weekend than with a crafty get together. By all accounts June’s stitch & Bitch was a corker. Even Maisy the dawg seemed to be having a blast. Here are a few snaps form our night…

Friday 13th is our next scheduled S&B evening….. Come along with any craft project you are working on and hang out with some lovely new people. We have space for 20 crafters so you’d better be prompt!

Thanks to all who has joined us to share they joy thus far.
