Photoshop for Creatives – Demystifying Photoshop!

31 May

Last Sunday a group of highly creative, yet technologically challenged designer/makers took to the shade of our cool and calm HQ to master their fear of photoshop! I (Amy) joined them to catch up with the times and brush up on my skills…

If you saw the uber cool poster on our website but missed the chance to learn how to work your creative computer skills with our very own creative photoshop genius Megan Dow… fear not! We will be running this exciting class again in July. And for those of you have a slight fear of photoshop i highly recommend this course. It was a great day and really inspiring, I got over my fear of shorcuts and left feeling tech savvy. Win.

May’s craft round up

30 May

Another month is almost up and here at Super+Super we thought we’d celebrate May with a round up of what’s been going on in our crafty world… The sun shone here in Brighton and Super+Super has now been open 3 months!

We started the month with a kick ass stitch & bitch! Thanks to everyone who showed up and got their craft on, new faces a plenty.

As part of the Brighton Fringe we welcomed MyLovely Productions for an afternoon of tea, cake and theatre talk. The show was a sucess and will tour next year around the UK! We had a brilliant afternoon supporting two very talented women working in the creative industries.

In-House classes this month included Crochet Granny Square’s, Hand Embroidered Hanky’s and Creating Characters. (See June’s classes listing for what’s up next!)

We were very excited to host our first Letter Lounge event on Sunday 20th! An afternoon event especially for taking time out to write letters to your friends and family. Thanks to Claire Medcalf for a lovely day! Watch this space for the date of our next Letter Lounge event.

We also swapped our old threads for new kicks and enjoyed few a cups of tea (wine) with fashion and vintage lovers alike at our May clothes swap…. I came away with a great pure wool 1950′s sweater and Claire a trio of cardigans!

Wowzer what a corker of a month we have had. We’d like to say thanks to everyone who has attended classes and events and supported us throughout and we look forward to seeing you at our June events.

Creating Characters Saturday Workshop

29 May

Saturday gone Super+Super welcomed Zara Wood aka Woody and Miss Amy Phipps to host our much anticipated Creating Characters workshop, previously held at YSP and Fingal Arts Dublin. With a window cram packed with Woody’s hand illustrated characters and stacks of colourful threads, books and scraps of magazines to aid the imagination our excited group of attendees let loose on their sketch books to create some crafty magic of thier own!

The first half of the day was spent with Zara creating their very own character – picking up useful tips on sourcing inspiration, fully utilising sketchbooks and ‘getting into’ the creative process.

Then working with both Amy & Zara on translating characters through hand embroidery onto fabric, framing them in lovely wooden hoops to make a one off very personal artwork.

Thanks to Woody and Amy for a truely creative and inspiring workshop. Watch this space for dates of our autumn Characters event!

Quotes from previous attendees:

‘Thank you! You’ve made sketchbooks anti-panic & doodles a stitching heaven’

Josie attending the workshop at YSP

‘An excellent course – I learned so much and feel inspired to keep going.’

Getting Skirty for Summer.

16 May

The sun is out! Quick! Rifle through your drawers and wardrobes, dig out those skirts, get those pins out and run to the beach with a picnic hamper filled with treats immediately.

Ok, so maybe it’s not quite hot enough for sans tights shenanigans quite yet. BUT the weather is a’turning and it’s time to snap up some new skirts in preparation for those summer funtimes.

A hot tip for your skirt purchases is to go midi. The great thing about midi skirts is that a) they look lovely & swishy and b) they are a tad more practical than wearing a mini skirt, especially on slightly windy days. Wear with brogues and ankle socks to the office and switch to sandals for the weekend.

We have a lovely selection of midi skirts available on our ASOS marketplace, so take a peek…

Or if online shopping ain’t your thing, why not pop along to our next vintage pop up shop on Saturday 16th June. 11-4pm. Free entry and a huge array of vintage treats. To keep reminded of our events you can follow us on facebook here or join the vintage pop up shop event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/438879156141457/
