Tweet Tweet Tweet. Are you hooked?

31 Jan

Let’s face it, we’re all addicted to Twitter now. We check it as often as we check Facebook and regularly find ourselves saying things like “Can you RT?” and “Did you see that (insert celeb name/news story here) was trending” on a daily basis.

It’s a whole new techy language. The likes of poke, like and tag are now a thing of the past. Now it’s all about mentions, retweets and hashtags. First off, my advice is don’t freak out. Yes, it’s daunting and you have no idea what you are doing for at least the first two weeks but after that it’s totally plain sailing and you’ll end up wondering how you ever managed to live without it.

With that in mind, here are my 10 top tips for utilising your Twitter account to your advantage:

1. Follow a healthy mix of influential people, friends, family, celebs and just the downright silly. Everyone needs a bit of joy in their days.

2. Make sure you add a link to your website on your profile and don’t be afraid to post links to your work and blog posts. It’s a great way of driving traffic to your site.

3. By all means voice your opinions and your woes but the moment you find yourself steering away from pleasantly neurotic to just downright angry it’s probably a good time to close the app/turn off your computer.

4. Don’t do the angry ‘I can’t believe you unfollowed me’ tweet. It’s not big or clever and it doesn’t get you anywhere.

5. Follow Fridays aka #FF’s are a useful tool for networking and sharing the love.

6. Twitter stalking is risky. Be prepared that people may be stalking you, or more likely you are stalking them. It has the same potential as Facebook and can bring a lot of sadness and heartache should you read something you probably didn’t want to read.

7. Post regularly, that’s one of the joys of Twitter. But when you find yourself Tweeting about absolutely everything you are doing, it may be time to cool it down a bit. You don’t want to be THAT guy.

8. Hashtags have two uses. One, they make you feel like the funniest person alive #justsayin and Two, they mean your Tweets come up in searches a lot easier.

9. It’s best to Retweet by copying and pasting the whole tweet and then adding RT at the front so you can add your own comments to it too. For example: @supersuperHQ We do too! RT @imcalledclaire Does anyone else find that the new Florence album tricks you into thinking that you are the best singer in the world? Or is that just me..?

10. Have fun with it and don’t take it too seriously. After all, it’s just another platform for us to express ourselves and celebrate our individuality.

Oh and why not follow us on Twitter while you’re at it…@SuperSuperHQ; basically the ramblings of @imcalledclaire and @missamyphipps.

Le Geek, C’est chic.

29 Jan

With Super+Super HQ about to launch in the next month or so, we have officially swapped our party shoes for cardigans and tartan prints while we find ourselves knee deep in paperwork and prep. That said, being the types to avoid blending in to the crowds, we are mixing up our studious style  and channeling the inner geek within us.

With celebs like Alexa Chung, Zooey Deschanel, Miranda July all cashing on on this elusive ‘Geek chic’ trend, it seem’s only right that we rifle through our vintage and bring some straight to your very doorstep too.

Think pinafores, pleats, ladylike blouses, tartan prints and cute cardi’s.

You can get your paws on these treats as well as many more at our ASOS Marketplace here: https://marketplace.asos.com/seller/supersuper/collection

Now back to the books.

Ohhh. Who am I kidding? Where’s the Gin…

We heart Vintage Brighton

18 Jan

Brighton, as I’m sure you already know is literally brimming with vintage. You can’t turn a corner without being faced with another kooky little vintage store (we for one, are not complaining!) So it’ll come as no surprise that one lovely lady has decided to take her love of vintage in Brighton and turn it into a one stop shop for all you vintage lovers out there.

We met up with founder of Vintage Brighton, Jo-ann Fortune to pick her brains on all things vintage.

Tell us a little bit about Vintage Brighton…

VintageBrighton.com is an online resource for vintage lovers in Brighton and beyond. As well as a shop directory and event listings, there are regular posts on everything vintage – from fashion trends to event reviews – written by those in the vintage know.

Can you tell us how the idea for starting Vintage Brighton came about?

I set-up VintageBrighton.com because I realised that there was so much going on in the vintage scene in Brighton, but no online hub for it. I wanted to create a place to bring that community together. I was also personally interested in finding out more about local vintage business and ventures and meeting like-minded people through the website.

Where are your favourite vintage hangouts?

I love Tic Toc in the Lanes – the interior is inspired by the eclectic look of Amsterdam cafes, and I love Amsterdam! I’m also a fan of the Rock Ola 1950s diner in the North Laine, especially the way you can come to it by accident when wandering through the back of the second-hand book and record shop next door.

What’s your favourite vintage shop in Brighton?

It’s a difficult one – there’s so much choice – but I think it’d have to be Kate & Aud: They have some really quality pieces in there and it’s affordable too. Of course it helps that Kate & Aud themselves are lovely and the shop is so cute: it’s like a big dressing up box. I bought a cream cable knit jumper from there before Christmas and it’s kept me warm all winter. I’m also spend a lot of time rooting around for gems in charity shops – Oxfam on Western Road is my local favourite and i’m in charity shop heaven on George Street in Hove.

Where’s your favourite place to go in Brighton?

Again, there’s so much choice: The beach is gorgeous when it’s sunny and I’m very happy taking a stroll along Hove seafront with my husband. I always enjoy wandering aimlessly through the North Laine – popping into Snoopers and browsing the stalls at the Upper Gardner Street Market on a Saturday. Devil’s Dyke is great for summer day trips and Hove is lovely when you want to escape the bustle of Brighton.

How would you spend your perfect day in our fair city?

Spending time in a mixture of the above places, and enjoying great food and drink along the way.

Who or what inspires you the most?

People who work hard to get what they want, but who remain modest, kind and loyal.

What does vintage mean to you?

Vintage is the freedom to play with fashion history: to pick and choose pieces from different decades and create a unique style with a story behind it.

Do you have any tips or recommendations for fellow vintage lovers?

Read VintageBrighton.com! You’ll come across new vintage shops, events, interesting people and stories just by browsing the site.

What’s your favourite decade for style?

The 1960s, without a doubt. I’d have loved to have been around when London was swinging. I would have also loved to have done a bit of swinging with The Beatles…

How would you describe your style in 3 words?

Charity shop chic

What has been your best ever vintage find?

A Dolce & Gabbana LBD which I bought for £40 in Oxfam on Western Road, and a pillar-box red Aquascutum coat that was just £5 in a charity shop on George Street.

What fashion statement do you love/hate?

I hate Uggs, especially the cheap fake ones that make people walk on sides of their soles – not a good look and terrible for your feet. And I love Peter Pan collars – as does everyone at the moment!

Super+Super Vintage picks

17 Jan

The weather is cold, the nights are bleak but we are still clinging on to our Spring/Summer wardrobes in the hope that the sunshine will stop deceiving us and actually warm us up.

With that in mind, here are our top vintage picks from our ASOS website this week. It’s all about the positive thinking people. If you think about the warm sun, it will come. At least that’s what we’re pretending anyway…

This pleated pink silky midi skirt is the perfect length for this season yet it’s pastel colour, which is oh so hot right now still makes you feel like you are not in the depths of winter. Team with a bright coloured top for a tutti-fruiti vibe.

We love this Harlequin print. We love the Missoni-esque feel. And what’s more, we LOVE that it’s woolen.

Wear a bright bold colour to instantly perk up your mood and make yourself feel sunny on the inside. Cute collars are everywhere right now so this one that slightly resembles a doily is just the ticket.

Studio Live

6 Jan

Roll up roll up. Available early March in the heart of the South Lanes, we are happy and excited to be opening a creative ‘hub’ offering 10 studio/desk spaces for creative professionals. Spread over 4 floors in total; our lovely venue also houses a teaching and events space as well as a basement studio ideal for a screen printing studio. The building is light and airy, with period features and a great sea front location! It also boasts a large communal kitchen/dining area, bathroom and 2 w/c and will be fully secure and alarmed. The décor is inspired by a cool mix of modern 1960′s Scandinavia. Think clean unfussy open space with a dash of colour in just the right places. With plenty of room to give your space your own personal stamp.

For more details and to be put on our waiting list, please contact Amy or Claire at supersuperHQ@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you!
